Advanced Dimensional Modelling
It’s important that a dimensional model supports all the end-users’ requirements for analyzing data. However this often creates some challenges in how you actually model it. How do you handle multiple (and different) time periods, unbalanced hierarchies and dimensions that change over time? If you are used to working with dimensional models you have undoubtedly come across some of these challenges.
Content: In this training course we continue to uncover the practical challenges in physical dimensional modeling. We teach you to design solutions that can address typical issues from you everyday work. The course covers topics such as:
- Modeling slowly changing dimensions based on frequency of change and reporting requirements
- Dealing with unbalanced hierarchies for e.g. organizational structure or product categorization
- Creating conformed dimensions
- The time dimension
- Aggregation and drill across on multiple star schemes
- Optimizing performance on monster dimensions
- Fact tables with different units of measure
- Modeling issues put forward by the attendees
The teaching form includes several practical exercises.
This training course is aimed at people who are already experienced in the world of Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing on a technical level.
Attendees should have an IT education background or should have worked with IT for a longer period of time. Attendees should have knowledge on Business Intelligence similar to the training course “Introduction to Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing” as well as knowledge on dimensional modeling similar to the training course “Data Mart design – Dimensional Modeling”
