Introduction to Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing

Achieving substantial business value when implementing Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing requires first and foremost that the technical implementation delivers on key business requirements. It must be the business driving the requirements. Besides having chosen the architecture, strategy and approach, the main focus is on how fast and good the results you get from your Business Intelligence initiative are.
Content: The course examines the technical techniques and concepts that are used in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, along with introducing you to Platon’s Information Management methodology Platon Insight®. The whole process for creating a Business Intelligence solution is examined – from covering requirements to extraction of data for better delivery to end users. The course covers topics such as:

  • Definition of Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence and Information Management
  • Technical techniques and concepts for Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence – EDW, dimensional modeling, OLAP etc.
  • Introduction to the business requirements for Data Warehousing – such as Balanced Scorecard, Customer Relationship Management and Supply Chain Management
  • Discussion on Data Warehouse strategy and architecture – Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Marts, Operational Data Store, Metadata Repository etc.
  • Introduction to Metadata Management and Information Management
  • Platon Insight® - The Idea behind the structure and design
  • IM program perspective – scope for single projects
  • Contents of a BI-project – activities
  • Methodology implementation – meaning in daily life
  • Methodology impact on knowledge gathering, efficiency and added business value
  • Handling and use of documentation
  • Practical exercises, individual and in groups
Target audience: The course is aimed at project managers, BI managers, BI architects and others that shall take part in a Business Intelligence project, from the Business or IT side. The course helps you to create a foundation for the project, giving you inspiration and helping you to overcome communication barriers in the project.
Attendee requirements: There are no requirements for attendees; however it is an advantage having good knowledge of IT and issues surrounding management reporting.
